👩‍💻 Create your stock portfolio
Now the fun part
In this final exercise, you’re going to put together everything you’ve learned during the course to create your stock portfolio. This won’t be a real portfolio of course, but instead will use some of the online mock portfolio tools available to create a fake portfolio.
‍
If you wanted to transform this into a real world portfolio then of course you’d be more than able to do so - but this course is purely for educational purposes and is not financial advice so you’d do so at your own risk!Â
‍
Instructions
‍
Using all of the analysis and previous exercises that we’ve covered throughout the course, create your personal stock portfolio.
‍
Remember that there are multiple different types of stocks and these can include:
‍
- Growth stocks - Shares of companies expected to grow at an above-average rate compared to other companies in the market, often reinvesting profits to fuel further expansion rather than paying dividends
- Blue chip stocks - Shares of large, well-established, and financially sound companies that have operated for many years and have a reputation for quality, reliability, and the ability to operate profitably in good and bad times
- Dividend stocks - Shares of companies that regularly distribute a portion of their earnings to shareholders in the form of dividends, providing a steady income stream to investors
‍
‍
Tools you can use
‍
There are a bunch of tools you can use to create your portfolio and some of the ones I’d recommend include:
- Yahoo finance - create and track multiple portfolios, real-time quotes, news, charts, and sync across devices
- Seeking Alpha - stock tracking, in-depth analysis, real-time updates, news, and alerts.
- Google Stocks Finance - create a personal portfolio, real time updates, quotes, chartsÂ
‍
Once your portfolio is created, sit back and watch how it performs over the next week or two. This gives you the chance to see how your stock portfolio might hypothetically perform over a short period of time - but remember, investing is all about the long term!
